Kincaid Elementary Mock Election Day – Wednesday, October 29, 2014
|On October 29th, Kincaid’s 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be participating in a mock election. This will be a great way to let our students experience the election process that their parents and family members will be participating in on November 4th.Purpose:
Young people have the potential to be a powerful force in elections, but only if they get
involved and make voting a habit. The Legislative Committee and the parents of the Kincaid community want to encourage students to become active voters once they are old enough to cast a ballot. We invite our students and our teachers to participate in Kincaid Elementary Mock Election, which will take
place on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, just one week before Georgia’s November 4th General
Election. We want to actively engage our teachers and our students in the upcoming Georgia General
Election Campaign and emphasize the importance of voting and the power of their ballots.Activity:
The week before the election we will present biographical information about the candidates
and the duties of the specific office. Upon approval of Administration we would like students to
role play candidates on the morning news.On October 29th, our students in grades 3-5 will make an informed decision and cast their votes.
Voting will take place in the cafeteria before school. We will set up private voting areas where
students will complete their paper ballots. The ballots will include two races, the seat for
Governor and State School Superintendent. Students in grades K-2 may vote separately in their
classrooms at the discretion of the teacher. We will tabulate the results school wide, and announce the results of the election on Friday
morning. We will conclude this activity by announcing and comparing the Georgia State General
Election results on November 5th.Through this hands on activity the students of Kincaid will understand the power in their voice,
they will learn about our voting process, and have fun along the way. We are designing an
experience that will be remembered for a lifetime.Contact: Laurie Rashidi, PTA Legislation and Advocacy Chair 2014-15
