In addition to being named Most Outstanding PTA in schools under 750 students by District 9 PTA, we were also recognized by the National PTA as an “Award of Merit” school by the Phoebe Anderson Hearst Award and by the Eastern Cobb County Council of PTA’s with the “Award of Distinction”. Georgia PTA awarded us the “Male Mania” award for having over 200 male members. Thank you to our dads, grandpas and uncles for being involved with our students! Studies show your involvement increases student achievement.
Keep Cobb Beautiful awarded Kincaid PTA their “Gold” award for the Cobb County “Green School Initiative”. We had 20 teachers participate and complete five or more environmental lessons in their classroom. The program gives students hands-on opportunities to learn about gardening and the environment. Our students planted bulbs, created a shade and perennial garden, learned about water collection, and decorated rain barrels. They also learned about composting and how worms make good soil! All of these lessons followed Georgia Performance Standards.
Mrs. Lantis was chosen as our “Green School Teacher of the Year” for her enthusiasm, collaboration with other teachers, parents and the community, use of innovative resources, and efforts to “green” her classroom. Mrs. Lantis received $50 to spend on environmental materials for her classroom or the garden area from the PTA Environmental Committee. She will also receive $30 for the next three years to refresh the shade garden her class planted with Mrs. Molley’s class. This award was kindly donated by Pike Nurseries.
PTA Officers for the 2009-2010 school year were installed at our May 7th General PTA Meeting. They are: Co-Presidents, Susan McCullough and Kim McMasters, Vice Presidents, Patsy Rausch, Pam McFarland, and Heather Held, Secretary, Tori Ingram, Treasurer, Lori Bartik and Parliamentarian, Terri Stanley. We are looking for one more person to be Vice President. If you have any questions or are interested in the position, please contact Susan McCullough at secretary@kincaidpta.org or Kim McMasters at vpkincaid@kincaidpta.org. It’s a great way to serve our children!
The Appropriations Committee met and approved the following items to be purchased by PTA for Kincaid: 6 ELMO document cameras (1 for each grade), 1 interactive tablet for use with Smartboards, Accelerated Reader “AR” upgrade to give students access to every AR test, exercise bands for the PE department, a new thermometer for the clinic, “Type to Learn” instructional keyboard program and headphones for use in Technology, “Trait Crates” program to expand writing programs in each grade, comprehensive audio equipment for use in the gym and the “morning news”, repair PTA storage shed, storage for large art projects for Art, 12 month Ed Helper subscription, washer for custodial use, and $500 towards the purchase of new risers for the Music program. The total amount spent was over $13,000. These purchases were made possible by your support of our Boosterthon fundraiser. Thank you!
Lastly, we’d like to thank you for the opportunity to serve Kincaid. We appreciate your willingness to get behind our ideas, programs, and initiatives. Thank you for letting us be a part of your child’s education.
Have a happy and safe summer!
