What is the difference between PTA and Kincaid?
There is a difference between Kincaid Elementary and PTA. PTA is a national, grassroots, not-for-profit group made up of teachers, parents, staff and community members. Its goal is to be an advocate for children. On a local level, PTA funds and organizes many enrichment (or extra) programs at Kincaid. If you would like a specific list of the programs our PTA offers at Kincaid see "What PTA Does for you…"

How can I join PTA?
PTA membership is open to all adults. If you did not join PTA at Meet and Greet in August, go to Membership, print and fill out the form. Attach a check made payable to "Kincaid PTA". The form and payment should be sent to school with your child in an envelope addressed to "Kincaid PTA-Membership". Their teacher will direct it to us. Or, if you prefer, you may contact the PTA membership committee and have them send you a form. Their names are listed in the Officers page on the website or in the calendar and school directory.

Do I have to volunteer if I join PTA?
Of course not. However, PTA is made up of volunteers. We are only as strong as our volunteers are active. We encourage and invite you to volunteer and help make a difference in our student's educational experience.

How can I volunteer at school?
If you are interested in volunteering, please call or email one of the PTA Officers, Committee Chairs of a subject that interests you, or the Volunteer Coordinator. You can find their phone numbers and email addresses in any of the publications listed below.

How do I contact PTA?
The PTA Officers and Committee Chairs names are listed in Cat Tracks, our monthly newsletter, on the PTA bulletin board in the cafeteria, in the front of the school calendar and Directory, and on the website. Phone numbers and emails are also listed. Please feel free to contact the PTA Officers and Committee Chairs at anytime.

I work full-time and I don't have much time. Is there something else I can do?
Yes! PTA is made up of many people with different schedules. If you cannot come into school, there are many other ways that your volunteer time can be spent. We need people with many talents, such as artistic talents, fundraising, networking, and others. Most of these things can be done at home by telephone or email. Check our list of "What PTA Does for our Students…" to see if there is a committee you would like to help and call or email the chair. We hope everyone will find something that fits into your schedule.

When will I get the school directory?
The directory is put together after the beginning of school. It lists everyone in the school by class and alphabetically, however, it does not contain contact numbers without prior written permission. It is distributed to all PTA members as soon as it can be put together, historically in the beginning of October.

Isn't PTA just about fundraising?
No! In fact, PTA has a rule that for every fundraiser a local unit does, they must support three programs (e.g. Celebration in Arts Day, Afternoon for Future Scientists, Reflections etc.). PTA believes the core value of a parent is more important than only as a fundraiser. Fundraising is only a means to carry out the goals and work of PTA. This philosophy keeps local PTA's focused on programs that help our children, rather than fundraising just for the sake of raising money.

Are there any special benefits to joining PTA other than supporting Kincaid?
Yes. Our Eastern Cobb County Council, Georgia PTA and National PTA all have special discounts for PTA members. See membership benefits for a list.

How are Room Parents chosen?
Each year at Meet and Greet, a sign up sheet is placed in every classroom. The parents that are interested in being Room Parent have the opportunity to sign up. After Meet and Greet, the teachers choose two parents that they would like to coordinate their classroom's activities.

How can I find out information about Cobb County and school district information?
Cobb County's school website is very informative. It lists websites for all its schools, county education requirements, the calendar, how to pay for lunches online and much more. Go to http://www.cobb.k12.ga.us/ for more details.
